Coat Rack Portmanteau Schönbuch Space-Age
Iconic and elusive Schönbuch Space-Age coat rack in red metal.
What is “Space-Age” design, you might ask? Well, in short, during the 1950’s, the excitement and anticipation around NASA’s first launch into outer space influenced interest around science & technology in both the design world and society at large. This design movement captured the people’s optimism and faith in technology and the utilisation of new materials and techniques.
We are now left with a legacy of highly collectible design icons born from the era including, to name a few, the Verner Panton Chair, Eero Aarnio’s Ball Chair, the Atollo Lamp by Vice Magistretti … and the Schönbuch Space-Age Garderobe.
The design is dating back to the 1970’s, this particular one I have available, being manufactured in 1984 according to its original label. It was cleverly designed to hang on the wall (attachments included) either open wide, or as a corner unit.
Some very slight wear on the shelves, otherwise in perfect condition.
